Note: vitamins B1, B3, B6, B9 and B12 are essential for neuronal function, and deficiencies have been linked to depression. High doses of these B vitamins have shown to improve mood. Stress causes mental and emotional strain. That’s why these vitamin B’s are a essential component in the Stress Rest formula.

Vitamin C (as ascorbic acid) has antidepressant effects and improves mood as deficiency of this nutrient is widely associated to stress-related disorders such as depression, anxiety, fatigue, and mental illness. Studies have shown oxidative stress to cause neuropsychological disorders. The potent antioxidant activity in vitamin C, protects neurons from oxidative stress, alleviates inflammation, regulates neurotransmission, affects neuronal development—all to which is closely related with mental disorders. Deficiency also gives leeway to motor deficit, cognitive impairment and aberrant behaviors (departing from an accepted standard), whereas supplement of vitamin C has a therapeutic effect on major forms of mental illness. As a result, we made sure to include it in our Stress Rest blend. [1,2,3]

Thiamin (as thiamine HCL), Vitamin B1, is also known as an “anti-stress” vitamin as it has the ability to strengthen the immune system and improve the body’s ability to withstand stressful conditions. It plays a crucial role in certain metabolic reactions. Deficiency is common in alcoholism and characterized by neurological disorders, oxidative stress, and refeeding syndrome (metabolism disorder upon reintroducing food to the body after deprivation/malnutrition), confusion and psychotic symptoms. Thiamine has been successfully used in the remediation of anxiety. [4,5,6,7]

Niacin (as niacinamide), Vitamin B3, with its tranquilizing-effects has been shown to be beneficial with psychiatric disorders. Example; one patient was stable and calm with Naicin supplementation for 11 years and when not taking it became anxious and depressed within 2–3 days and then resumption of Niacin resulted in a normal state usually within 1 day. Anxiety is an underlying component to mental disorders. [7,8,9]

Vitamin B6 (as pyridoxine HCL) is known as an anti-stress therapy due to its modulatory effects on neurotransmitters that regulating emotions and affect depression and anxiety. Research has supported a correlation between neurotransmitters and depression symptoms. VB6 has a modulatory strong effect on central production of both serotonin and GABA which are neurotransmitters that controls depression, pain perception, and anxiety. [10,11]

Folate (folic acid), Vitamin B9 is important for producing DNA and supporting a healthy nervous system. It can also help regulate mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, making it an important ingredient in our supplement. Studies reveal a link between depression and low folate. Depressed people showed to have low folate levels; those with the lowest levels were the most depressed. [12]

Vitamin B12 (as cyanocobalamin) is essential for a healthy nervous system and can help regulate mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. Additionally, it can help increase energy levels, which can be beneficial when dealing with stress. It has shown to significantly improved depressive symptoms. Deficiency may contribute symptoms of disorientation, depression or psychosis. [13,14]

Biotin, Vitamin B7 is important for producing energy from food and supporting a healthy nervous system. It can also help regulate mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. Study suggests taking a higher dosage of dietary B vitamins, especially biotin, lower the chance of depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms. [15]

Pantothenic Acid (as d-calcium pantothenate), Vitamin B5 is important for producing energy from food and supporting a healthy nervous system. It can also help regulate mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. Deficiency of the vitamin results in generalized uneasiness clinically. [16]

Choline (as choline bitartrate) is important for supporting a healthy nervous system and can help regulate mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. Additionally, it can help improve mental clarity and focus, which can be beneficial when dealing with stress. Its neither a vitamin or mineral but has similarities of Vitamin B’s. Hence, we incorporated this element into our Stress Rest formula. It is a nutrient found to aid mood disorders and mental illness. [17,18]

Calcium (as dicalcium phosphate) Ca is important for maintaining healthy bones and teeth and can help regulate mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. Intake, in one study, was shown to significantly lower depression. [19]

Magnesium (as magnesium oxide) Mg is important for a healthy nervous system and can help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. Additionally, it can help promote relaxation and improve sleep, which can be especially beneficial when dealing with stress. And so, this aspect was incorporated into our Stress Rest composition. It shows beneficial effects on anxiety. Supplementation eliminates many of the symptoms associated with deficiency such as anxiety and depressed moods. Research found a significant association between very low magnesium levels and depression. [20]

Inositol is an organic compound that belongs to the sugar family containing naturally occurring isomer of glucose with high biological importance. It acts as messengers of many metabolic pathways. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) levels of inositol are low in depression. Trial of inositol in depression showed a beneficial effect. Inositol was also effective for panic disorder. It also plays an important role in insulin resistance and hypothyroidism and more. Thus, we added this ingredient to our Stress Rest formula. [21,22]

PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid), Vitamin B10 is important for producing energy from food and supporting a healthy nervous system. It can also help regulate mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. PABA is commonly used in hair and skin (beauty) products.

Hops Strobiles Powder is the flower part of the Hop plant Humulus lupulus L. and used in the making of beer. It is a natural plant extract that has been used for centuries to help promote relaxation and improve sleep. It can also help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. It is known as a sedative plant. [23,24]

Valerian Root Powder is another natural ingredient that is commonly used for stress relief. Valerian has been shown to have a sedative effect, which can help to calm the mind and body, promoting a more restful night’s sleep. This root has also been used to help with anxiety and nervousness, making it an ideal ingredient for Stress Rest. It is a safe and effective herb that promotes relaxation; a mild sedative plant. Research has found it to reduce mean emotional, physical, and behavioral symptoms associated with premenstrual. [25,26]

Passionflower Powder (aerial parts), (Passiflora incarnata) is a natural ingredient that has been traditionally used to help reduce anxiety and promote sleep. Passionflower contains compounds that are known to have a calming effect on the brain, helping to reduce feelings of stress and promote relaxation. This ingredient can help to soothe the mind and promote a peaceful night’s sleep, making it an ideal ingredient for our Stress Rest supplements. It is commonly used since ancient time as a mild calming herb for anxiety. Scientist believe it does this through interaction with gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors and modulating GABA signaling in the brain. [27,28]
